Successful construction and delivery of three innovative gas tankers
TeamCo Shipyard recently delivered the third vessel in a series of new gas tankers for Chemgas Shipping. The Sno, Storm and Sumatra are all three specially designed and built for the transport of liquefied gases. TeamCo and Chemgas have long worked together on the development of such vessels. It is therefore no surprise that this cooperation was continued for the construction of these new innovative vessels.
The new tankers are 110 x 11.45 meters and are built with an eye to the future. The hulls are cleverly and efficiently designed, focusing on low fuel consumption, optimal payload and shallow draught. Moreover, the vessels are “future-fuel-ready,” a separate space in the hull has been kept free for future alternative fuels.
The hulls of these vessels were built at our partners in Turnu Severin in Romania. The finishing took place entirely in Heusden. In terms of propulsion, the Sumatra is equipped with two times 634 kW (862 hp) Green Power Caterpillar C32. The bow thruster installation was supplied by Veth Propulsion and consists of a Veth Compact Jet CJ-1000V directly driven by a 340 kW electric motor. The vessel is also equipped with a spud pole. Luxurious and comfortable interiors and furnishings provide a pleasant working environment for the crew.
We are proud of the end result: sustainable, state-of-the-art gas tankers on which it is safe and pleasant to work.
